PRESENTATION

The ways we communicate today have evolved at a rapid pace and together including the graphic arts. As a result, new needs have arisen focused on the the field of graphic design and multimedia, such as developing graphic projects Based on the initial product specifications, create graphic elements, mockups, and final artwork, or prepare quotes based on the characteristics of the project and quality assurance of the finished product. This course prepares you to gradually acquire the skills needed to become a professional in the field of architecture typography and layout, including writing skills and layout of publishing products.

Objectives

  • Create master pages, organizing and categorizing the spaces, following the instructions in a provided sketch and using a program computer-aided layout.

  • Selecting typefaces based on certain alleged instructions for carrying it out.

  • Create worksheets format and arrange text and images in a designed model.

  • Create a mockup final version of publishing products.

TEACHING UNIT 1. TYPOGRAPHIC ARCHITECTURE Definition and parts of a typeface. Typeface families and areas of application. Typometry. Text originals. Factors to consider when selecting typefaces. Factors to consider in text composition. Major issues related to layout and typeface selection. Page architecture. Font types, installation, and management. UNE and ISO standards; style guides. Text editing and typesetting software TEACHING UNIT 2. THE FORMAT OF THE GRAPHIC PRODUCT The different types of graphic formats. Characteristics and constraints of the various types of formats. Tools for text composition in graphic products: – Digital file formats. – Compatibility and transfer issues. – Text composition using standard vector graphics and desktop publishing software Typographic application in standard formats (DINAs). Typographic application in other formats: – Fold-outs and brochures: two-panel, three-panel, and fold-out brochures. – Large formats. – Outdoor signage, billboards, lettering. – Small formats: business cards, flyers. – Packaging: folders, product packaging. – Digital formats: banners. – Introduction to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) TEACHING UNIT 3. CREATING MOCKUPS OF GRAPHIC PRODUCTS Methodology for creating mockups of graphic products. Materials for creating mockups: – Digital proofing systems. – Simulating finishes on mockups. – Presentation substrates: foam board, PVC, and other materials. Creating mockups: – Output specifications for mockup production. – Printing mockups. – Laser printing, plotter printing, digital printing, and other printing systems. – Mounting on the presentation substrate. – Adhesive methods, folding methods, and other techniques. Creating packaging mockups: – Cardstock and its properties. – Adhering the design to the cardstock. – Measuring the mockup. – Creating manual dies. – Die cuts. – Sealing adhesives. – Presentation Mockup Quality: – Reviewing the mockup’s readability and aesthetics. – Correcting mockups to produce the final mockup TRAINING UNIT 2. LAYOUT OF PUBLISHING PRODUCTS TEACHING UNIT 1. LAYOUT OF A PUBLISHING PRODUCT Text and image editing platforms and software. Page Layout: – Page layout standards and theories. – Creation of layout grids. Creation of Master Pages: – Elements of a master page. – Application of master pages. – Changes to master pages Creating style sheets: – Character styles. – Paragraph styles. – Nested styles. Text input and composition: – Importing text. – Selecting fonts. – Applying styles to text. – Text composition guidelines. – Types of paragraphs. – Readability guidelines and typographic components of a publication. – Preparing and inserting images. – Selecting images based on the reproduction system. – Image processing for editorial reproduction. – Layout of images in relation to the text and the page. TEACHING UNIT 2. CREATING LAYOUTS FOR PUBLISHING PRODUCTS Materials for creating layouts: – Digital proofing systems. – Simulation of finishes and binding on mockups. Creating mockups: – Output specifications for mockup production. Printing mockups. – Laser printing, plotter printing, digital printing, and other printing systems. – Mounting on the presentation medium; binding. Quality control of mockups: – Review of the mockup’s readability and aesthetics. – Correction of mockups to produce the final version.
