PRESENTATION

In the field of Graphic Arts, it is necessary to understand the different fields of the Engraving and Printing Techniques, within the professional field Artistic Activities and Graphic Techniques. Thus, with this training, Techniques for Presenting Prints and Appraising Original Graphic Works, The aim is to provide the knowledge necessary to identify and monitor post-printing treatments and to appraise the original graphic work.

This training prepares you to become a expert in the authentication and presentation of graphic works originals, which can be valuable in the fields of art appraisal, museums, art galleries, auction houses, and private collections.

Objectives

  • Evaluate the behavior and the effectiveness of treatments subsequent provisions applicable to Original Graphic Works.

  • Define the Technical Aspects of Containers Featuring Original Graphic Art, applying criteria for adapting to the aesthetic, conceptual, formal, and protective characteristics established in a project.

  • Organize and set up the space for the Storage of an edition of an Original Graphic Work that promotes its optimal preservation.

  • Apply Established protocols for signing graphic works based on international standards regarding numbering, classification, and registration.

  • Perform the visual analysis of prints, identifying techniques and processes used in the development of *Obra Gráfica* and included in the historiographical cataloging record

  • Analyze the condition of the prints identifying any possible damage, if any, and determining the monetary value of the damages.

Syllabus

TEACHING UNIT 1. POST-PRINTING TREATMENTS FOR PRINTS

    Post-printing processes for the original graphic work. Behavior of the ink after printing. Behavior of oils and varnishes after printing. Behavior of solvents after printing. Behavior of products adhering to the graphic work. Post-printing treatments. Post-printing treatments for a three-dimensional graphic work.

TEACHING UNIT 2. CREATING CONTAINERS FOR ORIGINAL GRAPHIC WORKS

    The need for a container for the original artwork. Different types of containers: sleeves, boxes, frames, folders, cases, wrappers. Materials used to construct a container for artwork: wood, cardboard, adhesives, others. Material compatibility: physical and chemical changes. Treatments and environmental conditions. Quality control.

TEACHING UNIT 3. LIGHTING IN GRAPHIC ART

    The Effects of Light on Graphic Art. Main Sources of Light for Exhibiting Graphic Art. Light Measurement. Current Regulations Governing the Use of Light in Museums. Types of Glass. Installation Plans.

TEACHING UNIT 4. PRESERVATION OF ORIGINAL PRINTS

    General Concepts of Preservation and Conservation of Original Graphic Works Conservation of Original Graphic Works. Storage and Conservation Space. Conditions, Organization, and Appropriate Furniture for Original Graphic Works.

TRAINING UNIT 2. SIGNING, CATALOGING, AND APPRAISAL OF GRAPHIC WORKS
